About
The Proscenium is a free directory of the art field across South Asia and the Gulf — commercial galleries, museums, foundations, artist-run spaces and the artists they show. It is an initiative of The Neo Art Magazine.
Why it exists
The region's major cities are well covered by international platforms. Dhaka, Kathmandu, Colombo, Manama, Muscat, Thimphu and Malé are not. This directory treats South Asia and the Gulf as one field, because in practice — through its diaspora, its collectors and its fairs — that is what it is.
Nothing here has been paid for. No listing can be bought, upgraded or removed for money. That is the point: coverage follows the field, not a budget.
Corrections
Errors are certain, and we would rather hear about them than not. If your venue is listed incorrectly, missing, or has closed, write to us and it will be changed.
Galleries are also welcome to send a photograph of their space, along with permission to use it. That is the only way images appear here — nothing is taken from elsewhere.
What's in it
How reliable is this?
Every venue here exists and is in the city stated. Beyond that, the directory is at different stages of verification, and it says so on each entry rather than pretending otherwise.
83 of 263 entries carry a note that their details haven't yet been confirmed with the venue. Addresses are indicative until checked, and opening hours are mostly not yet recorded. Work is proceeding city by city.
A directory's only real asset is being right. Claiming more certainty than we have would cost us that, so we don't.
